The surgeons and staff of University Surgeons Associates value community service and involvement. We are committed to the well being of all the people of our region.
The wildfires that hit East Tennessee the week after Thanksgiving had a strong effect on the doctors and employees of University Surgeons. Many of our associates had families or friends that lost everything in the fires. The desire to give back to this region was strong among all of us.
Every Christmas, the employees donate money to a special cause in the name of the physicians of University Surgeons. During the Christmas holiday, the Dolly Parton My People Fund was chosen as the special cause, and a donation of $600 was made for the affected people in the wildfire.
Then during January, our office was closed for an afternoon so employees and physicians could take the opportunity to donate their time with Volunteer East Tennessee. All were assigned to the Emergency Distribution Center for Sevier County Fire Victims to help sort donations that had been made by people across the country. Once sorted, the articles of clothing, food, toiletries and household items are made available for people who need the help. It was an afternoon of hard work, but all had a feeling of satisfaction knowing we had made been able to help those who had lost so much.
